Great Bulleign Wood

Morghew Park Estate at Tenterden

Hello and welcome to our little website recounting the sorry tale of Great Bulleign Wood, on the Morghew Park Estate at Tenterden.

For a long time, the Estate had been seeking a suitable site on which to create a new piece of traditional, species-rich native woodland which could be linked-in to the Estate’s ancient woodlands using so-called wildlife corridors.

It was decided that this piece of woodland would be planted, over the course of two or three years, at the south eastern corner of the Estate, in the vicinity of the former Great Bulleign Farm, the acreage of which was absorbed into the Estate many years ago. The approximate location can be seen on the plan, below.

The first part of Great Bulleign Wood was duly planted during 2012, but in April 2014, the hundreds of young trees were killed using a weedkiller of some sort, as demonstrated by the image below.

Since then, the sign announcing the creation of Great Bulleign Wood, above, has also disappeared.

The Estate has decided that Great Bulleign Wood will be replanted in due course, and would be happy to receive any comments on our plans, by email, to info@morghew.com.
